He is the director of critically acclaimed Bollywood movie, Musafir released in 1986. He has directed many landmark movies of Marathi cinema including Mukta, Samna, Ek Hota Vidushak, Umbartha, Simhasan and Jait Re Jait. He won Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration for his Marathi film, Mukta in the year 1995. Though attempts had been done to release the movie in 8 Indian languages, the process is not completed yet. He is better known as the director of English movie, Dr. He is associated with theatre also and has directed many stage plays. Jabbar Patel is a leading film director of Marathi cinema.
